Meet Team

Meet our Honduras0412 Team

Our team is comprised of 14 people from different backgrounds. Whether traveling for the first time or returning to Honduras, each team member is excited and thanks God for the opportunity to go on this short mission trip. We ask you to pray for our mission and for God to use us according to His will. We asked each team member three questions so that you get to know him or her a little better. Thanks for visiting!
Honduras 0412
Q1: Tell me about yourself.
Q2: What motivated you to take this short mission trip?
Q3: What do you hope the outcome of the trip will be in your personal life?

  • I am currently seeking a job in Landscape Architecture. In the mean time I am doing a lot of volunteer work, including planning for Blackhawk Church's involvement in Honduras and helping plan and lead trips to Honduras. I am married to Pat and have 3 adult sons, a daughter-in-law and grandchild to be born in May (can't wait!).
  • I love the Hondurans, glad to be doing something to benefit them and enjoy introducing people to Honduras and seeing their lives changed as a result.
  • That I learn to depend on God for my help. That our team is positively impacted to serve God and be a blessing to people.

  • I am married, soon to be, 35 years, mother of four grown children, two married, and grandmother of 10 month old boy/girl twins, and I am occupational therapist working with children in a small school district.
  • I am excited to returning to Honduras for the 10th time. I am looking forward to seeing many friends there!
  • I have no doubt that I will sense God's handwork, mercy and grace all the more in my life and in those around me as a result of this trip.

Jack M
  • I was raised on a dairy farm in western Wisconsin, for 30 years I was a farm supply cooperative General Manager and I owned my own beef farm. I graduate from UW in agriculture. At present I own and operate a Real Estate Brokerage firm in Mt. Horeb.
  •  I have been on different mission trips in the past 6 years, Peru and Honduras, I feel the need to share the mission experience I have had with new travelers and help them navigate on their first trip.
  • Mission trips tend to make you refocus on the reality of life and the Kingdom of our Lord, it is a sobering yet fulfilling experience that makes one want to share it and tell it to others in hope that they will too want to do a trip at least once in their lifetime.

Mary M
  • I am retired from Occupation Therapy, currently doing lots of babysitting for grandchildren.
  • Having been in Honduras two years ago, I felt it was time to reconnect and serve the people of Orica in whatever capacity I can once again.
  • I always experience a profound depth of understanding for the culture and individual situations of the people.  It brings home to me how different and yet very much alike God's children are no matter how much the distance is on the globe.  I also am excited to have the time away from the usualness of life to connect with Jesus, serve Him in ways that deepen my faith greatly.

Daniel S
  • I'm a graduate student at UW-Madison, studying Electrical and Computer Engineering. I love to read, build electronic engineer-y-ness, and laugh! I also love puns and wordplay.
  • The opportunity to go on this trip came up in the church announcements, and after thinking and praying about it, it was clear that God was calling me to go. So, here I go!
  • I hope that this trip will open my eyes to see the world beyond my immediate surroundings and that God will continue to be at work in my heart!

Leanne S
  • I am a teacher in Verona. I currently teach bilingual 3rd grade and love using my Spanish in the classroom while spending time learning with kids!
  • Having grown up on the mission field, I jump at any opportunity to go back overseas! :) I particularly felt God calling me to go on this trip as a way of placing him first in my life as I continue to grow in my relationship with Him.
  • I am so excited to go to Honduras and build relationships with the people there. I think it is wonderful that Blackhawk continues to work alongside the church there and I feel privileged to be part of that work. I hope to see God use me in His work and also challenge me as I grow in my faith with Him through service to others.

  • I'm from Iowa City, IA. I moved to Madison after graduating high school last May to gain residence here at UW. Right now I am a server at a restaurant and this is my first mission trip ever which I'm very excited about it.

  • I work as a Case Manager for a Non-profit organization in Madison that supports adults with disabilities in their home. I am going back to graduate school this June for Occupational Therapy at UW-Madison and look forward to being in the Madison area for another couple of years!
  • I wanted to experience God's work in other places besides the United States and see what it is like for other people around the world to be a Christian. I was motivated to travel and experience a different culture and way of life.
  • I am hopeful that this trip will humble me and allow me to recognize the beauty of this world as God created it. I also hope to make new relationships with new people in new places and strengthen my relationship with God.

Tori B
  • I am a Madisonian single mom to a son and two step daughters, sweetheart of Greg for a little over two years, I love to travel; I am fascinated by cultures, people, relationships, food and art. I currently work as a Quality Analyst.
  • I am a renewed Christ Follower since He stripped my life of false idols, after a life that was just not Christ centered, unhappy with family struggles. Faith has made a difference in my life, as I have learned to allow Him to choose where he is sending me, to trust Him. I am GRATEFUL and THANKFUL because He has not forsaken me so here I go walking into this adventure He has me on.
  • Immersing myself by serving a culture I don't know, that's out of my element and is very exciting to me. When I saw the sign up for this trip I mouthed the words "I am going" with faith and certainty that I was going I felt so much emotion, peace, a draw in my heart and core. I know this is God drawing me to serve.

  • I am excited to be able to be one of the 14 members to travel to Honduras to serve the people in Orica.  Aside from my love for missions, I am in my 20th year working as a School Social Worker. Other interests and activities include acting, singing, sailing, canoeing, exercise, reading, and spending time in the
    outdoors.
  • I've had the privilege of serving on a number of mission trips and honestly, I felt led to apply for this trip.  Aside from my love to travel, I want to be stretched to grow, be used and serve others.
  • To deepen my love and dependence on the Lord.

Sally T
  • I am a single Mother of two wonderful daughters (Jena and Kelsie). I have lived in Mazomanie all my life. I am a Business Analyst and formerly worked at Unity Hltl Ins.
  • When the information appeared in the bulletin my daughter saw it and pointed it out to me at that moment I knew I needed to apply. I have a passion for traveling and love to volunteer to help others and to give back, as I have been truly blessed throughout my life.
  • I hope to strengthen my relationship with God, make new friends and help others in whatever way I can.

Robin W
  • I am On-figure Styling Coordinator.- Coordinate photo shoots from the home office to ensure the crew has everything they need. Process and organize everything from various sizes of all the apparel to clip boards and irons.
  • This is something that has been in my heart for a long time.  It is a mix between being challenged spiritually and finding my gifts of faith and helps.  I found myself searching mission trips on the Internet and seeking others who had been on mission trips to hear their stories.  It feels very natural for me to get involved and share my faith and love for God.  He has sent many blessings my way and for that I am grateful because of Him.
  • To be changed.
To use my gifts of faith, helps and administration more.
To share my faith and love for God.
To have a deeper appreciation for all the blessings God sends my way.

Introductory Paragraph -..............

Victor L
  • I'm an ordinary guy from Mexico, far from home but happy to be part of this group and thankful that God continually is working in me through things like this, also I have experience working with people from different ethnic backgrounds, I hope my skills can benefit our team.
  • I am constantly in touch with less fortunate people at home (Mex). I think of them often so for me to experience the challenge and the exposure to do something out of the ordinary motivates me to learn more about potential resources and/or community development that could happen for them as well.
  • I hope to continue having the opportunities to help those in need. During the trip, I am looking forward to discover new ways that God works in me and in the lives of others.
